I
have been attracted to wood and the process of making things with it for as
long as I can remember. As a child, I used leftover lumber to make toy airplanes
and boats, stick horses and scooters. Now I use wood to make decorative and
functional lathe-turned vessels. Many facets of my woodworking interest have
changed over the years; however, two constants remain, the need to make things
with my hands and the use of discarded wood. My favorite element of the woodturning art form is the creativity centered around transforming trees otherwise destined for the landfill or the fireplace into something both useful and beautiful.
The most challenging aspect is in seeing the possibilities of shape and form that best accentuate the unique qualities contained within each piece of raw wood.
The greatest satisfaction comes from sharing my creations
with others.
